Diesel Sells

From a student, a bunch of Diesel ads from 2010:

Wow. Don't even know what to say about these.

These ads are something else, I'll say that much. Advertisers and marketers seem to push the limit greatly on how much they can get away with in their advertisements. Though this is a field I am majoring in, I don't agree with the way the Diesel brand portrays women. Anyone can show some skin in an ad and have a 'hot' product, regardless if the product is a quality one or not. It takes skill and thought to market a product in a way that is not lowering the bar to exploiting women. I'm assuming Diesel will have many more hate letters than jean sales because of the nature of the ads.

I agree with what Samantha is saying. I don't see what is appealing about a man looking as though he's taking a bite out of the lady's derriere. I don't think I would purchase jeans from this company. It would just be promoting that I agree with their style of advertising.

I'm not sure what to say about the ads, and I was not aware that this brand even exsisted. That being said I do not know how popular they are in todays society. IF they are popular and Diesel is a successfull company, then I think it just shows how much todays society is ran by sex. These ads do exploit women and are slightly downgrading, but in Diesels defense if it is working and they are selling lots of jeans then I could see why they are doing this. But the fact they are sucessful is not thier fault. It's up to the consumer if they want to purchase the jeans or not.

These ads are ridiculous! I think it really says alot about our society when you look at an ad and you can't even tell what it's for, yet it has so much sex in it, it still sells. I have to say the picture of the woman shoving whatever that large wooden thing is down her pants was taking it too far. It's almost like it's not enough to have a stick thin model in nothing but the jeans they are trying to sell, they have to turn her butt to the camera so we can get an even better look... seriously? The biggest problem I have with the slogan "sex sells" is that they are acknowledging the problem and encouraging it!

I'm perplexed by the "sex sells*" series of ads, especially since they mention "*unfortunately we sell jeans." So....is that supposed to be ironic? By the use of "unfortunately" are they saying that if they could sell actual sex they would? They're coming close...they're selling the image of sex. They're telling us what they think sexy is and since Diesel is an world renowned company with expensive, couture products, they get away with it and even seemingly have the authority to do so. Not that I agree with it AT ALL...
